IPBA Sanctioned Poetry Bout

The Show

A live stage show featuring two top-notch poets punching 20 poems in a mock boxing ring with a bell, IPBA official who performs the Ring Announcer and/or Bout Referee duties, a timekeeper, ring girl, prize Title, and official Poetry Bout Regulations.

Based on the legendary and historic format for poetry matches, a Sanctioned Poetry Bout is held before a panel of three (3) citizen judges. With a duration of 90 to 120 minutes, depending on the length of the poems presented, the show can be staged with or without an intermission.

Revenues from the feature performance can be augmented with premium pricing for ring-side seating, box seats with catered meals, pre-shows (the “undercard”), DVD sales, etc.

This crowd pleaser makes an excellent fundraiser and lends itself to being part of an annual event or festival.

What You Get

The IPBA will stage the show at your venue. We will supply up to two IPBA officials and will help you locate suitable poets for the performance, including those from our stable of sanctioned Poetry Bout veterans (list attached).

We will supply IPBA logos for your promotional use. We will supply the stage set, bell and other details of Poetry Bout staging. We will train your ring girl, timekeeper, judges and any other officials. We will provide you with a stage diagram and a list of technical requirements. Our fee covers a rehearsal or run through.
